Law 77/61 on Physical Education, of December 23, 1961, created the National Institute of Physical Education under the National Delegation of Physical Education and Sports, having as its purpose «…the formation and improvement of physical education teachers and sports coaches (…). It will also be a function of the Institute the scientific research and the realization of studies and practices oriented to the improvement of all matters related to physical education».

For its development and operation, Mr. José María Cagigal Gutiérrez was appointed director, who had defended the creation of a study center where professionals of physical activity and sport would be trained with the vocation of becoming university studies, similar to those already existing in some European countries and in the USA. In 1963, Decree 1391 of June 3, 1963, endowed the new center with Constitutive Statutes.

Under Royal Decree 1670/1993, the Plan of Studies for the Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid was approved by Resolution of September 25, 1996.

The main building of the INEF-UPM has seven floors, so Francisco Manuel will have to go up and down all its stairs 312 times to achieve it. Depending on the specific training developed by this student, the estimated duration of this test is between 15 and 20 hours.

The challenge is part of the Final Degree Project (TFG) of Francisco Manuel San Cristóbal (Physical and nutritional preparation to face the challenge «Climbing Everest at INEF»), directed by Guadalupe Garrido, professor of the Department of Health and Human Performance, and Manuel Sillero, professor of the Department of Sports of the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences.

All the data collected during the challenge will allow quantifying the effects of the effort made and will be analyzed in the student’s TFG. This challenge can be followed live through the student’s social networks.
